From a former bank to a new town centre bar, The Treasury is set to open its doors once again next month and The Anchor is giving readers a first look inside.
For several months the revamp progress has been kept under wraps but The Anchor’s pictures tell a story of heritage architecture and modern hospitality in the Grade II listed building on Baxtergate.
Former HSBC customers will remember the grand banking hall which remains at the heart of the new project, with particular attention being paid to preserving the building’s sense of scale and grandeur.
Original features have been carefully restored by specialist craftsmen and conservation experts. Ornate detailing, original windows and historic fittings have been kept where possible, while contemporary finishes are being introduced to create what the team describes as “timeless modern luxury.”
Layered lighting, refined materials and bespoke furnishings will create a warm and intimate atmosphere throughout the venue which officially opens on June 8. Distinct spaces have also been created within the new bar which are each designed to offer its own atmosphere and identity.
Founder Ali Hussain said: “This building deserves to be celebrated. We’ve tried to respect every part of its history while creating something completely fresh for Whitby. There are moments inside the building that genuinely stop you in your tracks.”
From opening day, visitors can enjoy freshly brewed coffee and cake from 8am, alongside a carefully curated drinks menu available throughout the day and into the evening.
The bar will serve premium drinks and bar snacks from 8am until late, seven days a week, creating a relaxed yet refined space for everything from morning coffee to evening cocktails.
The full restaurant experience at The Treasury will follow later in the year, with enquiries now open for Autumn/Winter 2026 bookings.
The project team includes local architect Neil Duffield, alongside a team of skilled local tradespeople and specialists, RS Building.
