The historic smoke house on Henrietta Street in Whitby had its door broken on Saturday September 18.

Then at around 3am on Thursday September 24, the window to the kipper shop was smashed.

Beth Brown, whose family have run the kipper house for generations said: “There have been a spate of break ins on the street in the last week including two ice cream shops. Whoever it is seems to be targeting businesses, but not actually taking anything. We just think what is the point? It’s very frustrating as it has delayed us opening this morning.”

Beth’s father, Barry Brown was on site boarding up the window and said the culprits had damaged the wooden frame, which was original.

He said: “They have smashed the window and damaged the orginal frame which has been there over a hundred years. We just can’t understand why”

The incident has been reported to the police.
