The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) will fully re-open the line between Whitby and Pickering next week following temporary repairs to a bridge at Grosmont.
It means passengers, from Monday June 1, will once again be able to travel the full 24-mile heritage route through the North York Moors National Park after the bridge was closed earlier this year.
Repairs to the bridge, which has seen scaffolding erected on the underside of Bridge 42 to prop it up, also means the Annual Diesel Gala from June 11 to 14 can go ahead.
A full repair programme to Bridge 42 will take place over the closed season during the winter of 2026/27. It will restore the bridge to its long-term structural integrity and ensure its preservation for future generations.

A major appeal has been launched to cover both the costs associated with propping the bridge and the vital repairs needed. NYMR aims to raise a minimum of £800,000 to enable the necessary repairs to be completed.
