A new bar, temporary buildings at Whitby School and replacement windows are amongst the planning matters being considered by Whitby Town Council this week.

Its planning committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss the following applications which have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council.

They are as follows:

Discharge of Conditions nos: 3 (Dowel details), 4 (Drilling details), 5 (Removal of dust and debris), 6 (Grout details) and 7 (stone details) at Old Town Hall, Church Street, Whitby.

Replacement of timber windows with uPVC. Proposed french doors to existing window opening on front elevation. Alterations to rooflights. Conversion of existing single storey rear storeroom to incorporate into main dwelling at 2 Esk Terrace, Whitby.

Replacement windows at 10 Normanby Terrace, John Street, Whitby.

Variation of condition 1 of decision reference C4/20/01488/CC dated 28/08/2020 on application NY/2020/0113/73 to allow occupation of permitted temporary buildings for a further six years at Whitby School, Prospect Hill, Whitby.

Conversion including internal and external alteration and extension to existing building to form bar with food provision (sui generis) on first floor and associated staff welfare on second floor at 4-5 Baxtergate, Whitby.

Construction of single storey store/garage to front elevation at 18 Abbots Road, Whitby.

Following the planning meeting, there will be an extra-ordinary meeting of Whitby Town Council to discuss the proposal to confer the Honorary Freedom of Whitby on RAF Fylingdales, as previously reported in The Anchor.

If councillors agree to the proposals, which were first muted in November last year, there will be a civic ceremony to mark the occasion held some time next year.

The town council says granting the honour would be “an expression of the friendship, mutual respect, and bond between the town of Whitby and RAF Fylingdales”.

Whitby Town Council’s regular monthly meeting of the full council will follow at 6pm.

Agenda items include inviting an officer from North Yorkshire Council to discuss the future of cemetery provision in Whitby; to consider the commissioning of measured building, condition, and asbestos surveys for the Council’s property portfolio; and the provision of stoma friendly toilets in the Abbey Headland, New Quay Road, Pier Road, Market Place and West Cliff public toilets.

The times for Tuesday’s meetings are planning at 5.15pm, extra-ordinary meeting at 5.30pm and full council at 6pm. All meetings will be held at Pannett Art Gallery.
