Work is taking place to repair the steps near Sandsend Tunnel on the Cleveland Way meaning the popular walking route is closed this week.
While the steep steps, which link the paths over the fields from Lythe to the old railway line, are closed, an alternative walking route is in place.
As part of the repairs, the steps have been removed meaning that section is impassable.
The diversion begins before the tunnel, approaching from Sandsend, climbs up a path through gorse, into fields near Deepgrove Farm, through woods and via another section of field and back on to the Cleveland Way.
A spokesperson for The Cleveland Way National Trail: “We expect the work to take at least a week but may be longer. We will update when the work is complete.”
