Three people remain in hospital today following a serious crash near Mickleby.
North Yorkshire Police has issued an appeal for information following the incident at around 9.50pm last night (Monday).
It involved a grey Ford Ranger and a blue Ford Fiesta. The Ford Ranger was travelling on the B1266, approaching the junction with the A174. The Ford Fiesta was travelling on A174 West, towards Ellerby.
There was a large scale response from the emergency services involving ambulances, fire engines and police.
Five people were taken to hospital by ambulance, where three remain with serious injuries. Two people have since been discharged.
The road was closed for several hours to allow for police investigation and for the vehicles to be removed.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said they were particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of the incident.
